Parkland volleyball voted 2011 local sports story of the year by readers

An unscientific poll on http://www.themorningcall.com shows that Parkland's unbeaten girls volleyball team that won the state Class 3A championship is the 2011 local sports story of the year, according to readers.

More than half of the 1,200 votes were for the Parkland team, which beat perennial Pennsylvania power Hempfield in the state title match in November.

Runner-up in the poll was Salisbury's surprise run to the state Class 2A baseball title game in June.
